“It always seems impossible until it’s done” Nelson Mandela

We are nearly at the end of another busy term at Mary MacKillop and have achieved so much. Some highlights have included our fabulous Father’s Day fun and games on the oval, the school Athletics Carnival, and the always entertaining Edu Dance concert. Many thanks to all staff involved in coordinating these events for the children and wider community; it is a real buzz seeing the children thoroughly enjoying themselves and being able to showcase their various gifts and talents.

Public Holiday

The passing of Queen Elizabeth II, after her long-serving reign, has brought great sadness to many people in Australia.  Our prime minister Anthony Albanese made the announcement on Sunday that a “one-off public holiday” would be held on 22 September as a national day of mourning. This is to honour the queen and to coincide with the Queen’s funeral on 19 September. The students and their teachers have kept the queen and her family in their daily prayers. The whole school Mass that was scheduled for that day has been postponed till next term.

School Choir

On Monday evening our School Choir participated as part of the Combined Choir in the Spirit of the Arts Festival Concert at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre with four other Catholic schools. This was a magnificent opportunity for our students to showcase their singing talents and they were a credit to our school. Thanks to Mrs Mouchemore and Mrs Tucker for preparing the students so well; they sang beautifully.

Splash and Dash Colour Run

The P&F have organised a Fun Run Splash & Dash as the major fundraising event this year on Friday 23rd September to raise money for sensory tools and Lego engineering packs to be used across year levels. The event will be run in the afternoon, with each class having time to enjoy an obstacle course and fun on the oval. If you choose for your child not to participate, please let your teacher know.  It promises to be a fun-filled event.

Canteen closed

Please note the canteen will be closed for Weeks 1 & 2 of Term 4. We apologise for any inconvenience and ask you to make alternative arrangements during that time. The last day for students is Friday 23rd September.

Wishing you all a restful holiday break and look forward to seeing you all next term on Tuesday 11th October.

Yours sincerely
Lisa Liebregts
