From the Principal – Term 4, Week 1

Oct 11, 2023

Dear Parents and Caregivers

Welcome back to the final term of the year. It will be a very busy term for sure, but still a great one in our beautiful community. It is nice to be back after the leave I took at the end of last term, when I went on a pilgrimage following the footsteps of St Paul throughout Malta, Greece and Turkey. I would like to extend my gratitude and thanks to Lisa Liebregts, who was the Short Term Principal in my absence. I know Lisa and Tim Maxwell did a great job holding the fort.

Awareness/Compassion Reflection We can’t heal the world today, but we can begin with a voice of compassion, a heart of love and an act of kindness.

Kindergarten Refurbishment I am very pleased to announce that CEWA has approved Stage 1 of the refurbishment programme for our Kindergarten. This mostly involves getting a new roof and verandahs as well as some landscaping at the back area of the building. Our architect and builder will only have a small window of time to complete this part of the programme, and work will commence the day after the students finish at the end of this term. Say your prayers that they get it done before we return to school at the start of next year! I have seen the drawings and it looks amazing as the area at the back will be significantly better and will meet all the compliance standards. This includes a small lift for wheelchair access. Stage 2 has not been approved yet, but I am hoping it will proceed during the following summer holidays. Stage 2 will be the internal works and the Kindergarten will end up looking a bit like the Pre Primary, which we know is a magnificent learning space. This whole project has been in the pipeline for a few years now and I’m really excited that we can finally get it done. Also, If you have a younger sibling who will be attending Kindergarten next year, and you haven’t let us know yet, now is the time. Please let Barb or Jane know ASAP.

Whole School Mass Our first Mass for the term will be held in our Church on Thursday 19 October at 8.45 am. All parents and grandparents are most welcome to come along and join in.

Disco We will be holding our annual school disco on Friday 20 October in the hall. As usual, it will commence at 5.30 pm and will finish at 7.30 pm for all students except the Year 6s. The Year 6 students will get an extra 45 minutes from 7.45 pm to 8.30 pm. I hope that all of our students come along and have some fun (it would be great to see everyone dancing). I know that it takes our parents a lot of time and preparation to organise these discos and I would like to thank Alyce Hoffman-Fritz and her team of workers for their efforts which help make events like these, so enjoyable for everyone. Details have already been sent home. Please make sure you support our P&F who do so much for our community.

P&F Meeting Our meeting for Term 4 will take place in the staffroom immediately after the assembly this Friday 13 October. All welcome!

Yours sincerely

Laurie Bechelli
