Last Day of TERM 1 2025

From the Principal – Term 4, Week 1

Oct 9, 2024

Dear Parents and Caregivers

Welcome back to the final term of the year! I would like to say a big thank you to Mrs Lisa Liebregts for doing a great job in my absence. I know Mr Tim Maxwell and the rest of the staff supported Lisa in a wonderful way as I was enjoying a fabulous holiday exploring Spain and Portugal. On Monday this week, the staff had a reflection day at the Mary MacKillop Centre in South Perth. We spent time learning more about the life of Mary MacKillop and what type of person she was. One thing that stood out was her immense resilience. She dealt with incredible adversity, and yet she remained strong. What was the secret to her resilience? It was her prayer life and trust in God. Mary spent time in prayer and meditation and this is something we too, are going to spend more time focusing on this term.

Empathy Reflection Find happiness in making others happy! Mary MacKillop 1899

Faction Carnival This Friday 11 October we will be holding our annual faction carnival on the oval. It is going to be a warm day, so please remember to put sunscreen on your children before they get to school. They will need hats and plenty of water too. We have extra sunscreen for them to apply throughout the day. The netball club will be providing the sausage sizzle as usual. Please note that the P&F will no longer be doing the coloured hair fundraiser. If your child would like to have coloured hair on the day, please do it at home on the morning of the carnival. This day is always a highlight on our calendar, so please come along and enjoy watching the action.

P&F Meeting Our final meeting for the year will be held in the staffroom on Monday 14 October at 8.45am. All welcome!

Disco Our annual disco will be held on the oval on Friday 18 October from 5.30pm to 7.30pm. As is our tradition, the Year 6 students get an extra 45 minutes all to themselves from 7.45pm to 8.30pm. Please remember that from next year, all P&F functions will be given to year groups to organise. If they are not organised by volunteers from the nominated year groups, then the activities will not take place. We have had a small P&F for a couple of years now and we need to find ways of sharing the workload around.

Year 5 Leadership Speeches On Monday 21 October, our Year 5 students will start the election process to see who our leaders will be in 2025. To help facilitate this process, we have engaged the services from the Electoral Commission who will turn this into a real life learning experience. At the same time, the students will learn about how state and federal elections are organised. I wish all students who are brave enough to nominate for a leadership position, all the very best of luck.

Parking No doubt by now, you have noticed that the City of Swan are conducting improvements on the roundabout on the corner of Cassowary and Pelican Parades. For some of you, this will be a major inconvenience. Hopefully, it will be completed by the end of November and I ask all parents to exercise patience and courtesy with one another. On a positive note, we finally get all cars exiting onto Cassowary Parade, turning left! I hope that once the roundabout reopens, you are in the habit of only turning left onto Cassowary Parade from now on.

Yours sincerely

Laurie Bechelli
Principal
