Last Day of TERM 1 2025

From the Principal – Term 1, Week 1

Feb 5, 2025

Dear Parents and Caregivers

Welcome back to another wonderful year at Mary Mac! I would like to extend a very special welcome to all new staff, students and families. I hope your time with us is rewarding and enriching in our welcoming and friendly community.

Scripture Reflection Romans 15:7 Therefore, welcome one another as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God.

Canteen Please note the new menu for 2025 has been published, and there are a few changes. We have done our best to keep the prices down for the last few years, however, due to price increases from our suppliers, we have had to pass them on. We have tried to keep these to a minimum. Also, in the past, you could place your orders as late as 9.00am. However, as the canteen has become increasingly busy, all orders now need to be placed no later that 8.30am. This gives Sabrina and Kath the time they need to get all orders filled on time. Thanks for your understanding and ongoing support of our canteen.

Leadership Badges At the Awards Ceremony last year, we announced who our leaders for 2025 were going to be. Now, at last, our Year 6 leaders will finally receive their badges at the assembly this Friday morning in the hall. Everyone is welcome to come along and watch this year’s leaders wear their badges with pride for the first time.

P&F Meeting The first meeting for the year will be held in the staffroom on Monday 10 February at 9.00am. I would like to say a big thank you to two brand new Kindergarten parents, Hayley Klup and Melissa Condelli, who have kindly volunteered to be the Chair and Vice Chair this year. This is wonderful news, especially for Allison Fox and Kylie Whitehead who are staying on as Treasurer and Secretary. Please remember that the P&F have distributed events out to class groups this year to spread the workload. If parents from those classes don’t get together to organise anything, then those events won’t be held and the students unfortunately will miss out. Stay tuned for the details as they come out.

Edudance We are continuing with this dynamic and fun programme this year and classes for the students in the Blue classes from Pre Primary to Year 6 start on Monday 10 February. Please note in your diaries that the concert will be held on Monday 7 April from 6.00pm in the hall.

Parent Information Night This will be held on Monday 10 February starting at 6.00pm in the hall. I will talk for around 10 to 15 minutes and then you will go to the classrooms for two sessions. The first one runs from 6.20pm to 6.50pm and the second one runs from 7.00pm to 7.30pm. Please remember that these sessions are general in nature and the teachers won’t be talking about individual students. If you have any questions regarding your children, please contact the teachers to arrange an appointment at a mutually agreeable time.

Curtin University Speech Programme This wonderful programme will continue once again this year for the students in Kindergarten and Pre Primary. Along with our very own speech and occupational therapists, we are supporting more and more of our students each year.  This year, we will develop our relationship with Curtin a bit further as they have approved for a group of fourth year occupational therapy students to work with the St Joseph Centre staff to create a sensory room. This will be a year long project and I will update you as we go.

Swimming Trials These will be conducted for the students in Year 4 to 6 on Friday 14 February at the local Ballajura swimming pool. Mr Boyce will be sending home all the details. If any parents are free to assist, please let Mr Boyce know as we usually need extra help.

Yours sincerely

Laurie Bechelli
Principal
