Reconciliation Mass Weekend - Students are requested to attend

From the Principal – Term 4, Week 3

Oct 29, 2020

Dear Parents

At long last, we have caught up with all the activities that were put on hold due to COVID-19. This has been a superhuman effort and I would like to acknowledge the staff for their commitment to our students. I know that a lot of other schools have simply cancelled many events and did not make them up. With only six weeks to go, we can now focus on the end of year activities which should all go ahead as planned as long as the Phase 4 restrictions are adhered to.

Interschool Athletics Carnival This carnival is set to proceed this Friday and our talented students will get the opportunity to represent our school against seven other Catholic schools in our division. However, with the weather forecast predicting a very hot day, it may be postponed until next Friday. The Interschool Sports Association will make the decision on Thursday afternoon and Mr Power will be in contact with parents to keep them in the loop. Mr Power has already sent home the details to those students who were selected and I know that they will do their very best. Although it is great to win, I think it is the way in which we conduct ourselves which is more important. The Mary Mac students have an excellent reputation for good sportsmanship. A big thank you is extended to Mr Power for organising our team.

P&F Disco This is the final event for the year and it will be a disco with a slight difference. Instead of being in the hall where it can get very hot and noisy, the disco will be held on the oval. It promises to be a fun night so please do support our P&F who have put a lot of time and energy into it. As usual, all money raised will go towards the playground upgrades which have already started.

Book Week The annual Book Week parade takes place on Friday 6 November in the hall. Due to the Phase 4 restrictions, we need to do it in two parts. The times are: PP-3, 8.40am to 9.00am and Years 4-6, 9.00am to 9.20am. As usual, parents are asked to socially distance whilst watching in the hall. It promises to be lots of fun.

AGM Board/P&F Meetings The AGM will be held in the hall from 5pm on Monday 23 November. Typically, we get a low turn out as people think they may end up on a committee. This year, we are looking for a number of volunteers to join the P&F as most of the current Executive are retiring after a few years of amazing service. The P&F is a wonderful place to make new friends and also contribute towards community building and fundraising which directly benefits the students. If you would like to join the P&F, please contact Alyce Hofmann-Fritz. We have one vacancy on the Board for next year and so far, I have received one nomination which means we don’t need to hold an election unless someone would like to make an extra nomination. Please see me by the end of this week if you would like to nominate for the Board.

Yours sincerely

Laurie Bechelli
