GIRLS WITHOUT LIMITS AIMS TO PROVIDE YOUNG GIRLS WITH A SUPPORTIVE POSITIVE ENVIRONMENT AND THE TOOLS TO HELP THEM ACHIEVE THEIR TRUE POTENTIAL.
Girls Without Limits is a WA based Not-For-Profit that focuses on providing an environment and strategies to promote positive mindsets, emotional intelligence, physical activity and a sense of belonging for girls. It also aims to create strong resilient and empowered girls who are involved in the community.
With mental health issues being identified amongst girls at an increasingly younger age our aim is to provide preventive programs from age 8-17. To provide a wider and lasting impact on our target group GWL has established club facilities in Ellenbrook which operate after school 4 days per week from 3.30-6.30pm and school holidays. We provide a positive environment, with a range of programs that focus on physical and mental wellbeing away from school and home.
It is a huge team effort with our dedicated facilitators and volunteers all contributing to make a difference in the lives of our girls. Our goal is to see the quality of girl’s lives improve, to show them there is a way to love themselves and those around them.
Sibling Rivalry
Parent educator, Michael Grose says that sibling rivalry is most intense in families with two children! For those of you with two children you will either find that reassuring to hear, or a little daunting! Michael also jokes that the cause of sibling rivalry is simply having more than one child, so don’t feel that there is anything to be worried if this feels like an ongoing battle in your home sometimes!
Tips for dealing with sibling rivalry:
- Accept children’s individual differences
- Recognise each child’s role in your family
- Use encouragement liberally and praise sparingly
- Put them in the same boat when they misbehave
- Focus on solutions not the fight
- Introduce family meetings at age five
The family that plays together stays together! Have you ever noticed that when you are having fun with children the fighting ceases or at least decreases? It is hard to laugh and fight at the same time. Make sure you spend some time together as a family involved in enjoyable activities such as playing games, reading a story together and other ways that promote either interaction or closeness between children. When children believe and feel that they belong to the same tribe they are more likely to stick together and look after each other when difficulties arise.
