From the Principal – Term 3, Week 1

Jul 17, 2024

Dear Parents and Caregivers

Welcome back to the second half of the year. It was fantastic on Monday seeing all the happy faces on our students as they settled back into their schooling routines. Thankfully, this term is a normal length. I think most people found the eleven weeks last term very challenging! As usual, there is plenty happening at Mary Mac and I look forward to sharing these activities with everyone in our beautiful community.

Empathy Reflection Matthew 7: 3-5 Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, “Let me take that speck out of your eye when all the time there is a plank in your eye?”

Edu Dance This fantastic programme commences next Monday 22 July for all the students in the Gold classes plus Kindy Blue. Please make sure you put the concert date in your diaries now. It will be held in the hall on Monday 16 September from 6pm for the students in Pre Primary to Year 6. The Kindy parents will be invited to come along during the day to watch an Edu Dance class in action. More details will be sent home closer to the date.

Interschool Cross Country Carnival This will be held at the UWA Sport Park on Tuesday 23 July. Mr Boyce will send home all the details for the squad members. As usual, parents and grandparents are most welcome to come along and support our athletes.

Bishops RE Tests These will be conducted from 31 July to 2 August for the students in Years 3 and 5. The students will get a practice session next week. Please contact the teachers involved if you have any questions.

Confirmation The programme for the Year 6 students commences on 27 and 28 July with commitment Masses that weekend. All students in the programme are required to attend one of the Masses to make their pledges. The retreat for the students will be held on Wednesday 31 July in the hall. It will be run by the leaders from 24/7 Youth Ministry. Please note that the parent information session will also be conducted that same day, starting with Mass in our Church at 7pm. Fr John will then talk to parents and sponsors after Mass. Please make sure you come to this meeting.

Faction Carnival This year, we are going to trial holding the carnival in Term 4 instead of Term 3 as the weather hopefully will be better. Therefore, please note Friday 11 October in your diaries, which is the first week back next term. The netball club will be providing the sausage sizzle as usual. Let’s hope we get a lovely day for everyone to come together and enjoy.

Fr John’s 50th Anniversary Celebration A special Mass and dinner will be held in our Church on Saturday 31 August from 6.00pm. If you would like to attend the dinner, please contact the parish soon as tickets are selling quickly. If you can’t make it to the Saturday night Mass or dinner, morning tea will be provided the next day after the 9.30am Mass.

Kindergarten 2025 Places are filling fast and we only have a few vacancies left. We are still getting sibling enrolments for next year which really need to be finalised as soon as possible. Please let the front office know if you have not enrolled a younger sibling as we would hate for them to miss out!

Yours sincerely

Laurie Bechelli
