Year 3 Excursion to Kalamunda History

From the Principal – Term 1, Week 7

Mar 19, 2025

Dear Parents and Caregivers

During the coming weeks, our school will participate in a Quality Catholic Education School Review. These reviews take place every few years and it is an opportunity for us to reflect upon our achievements of the past three years. We also then set some goals for the areas of focus and improvement we would like to work towards over the next three years. I personally believe that our community is in excellent shape on many fronts. I have worked in eight different schools over the years, and this one certainly is by far the most well resourced. When you add a community of supportive parents and dedicated teachers, it leads to be a place of welcome, inclusion and happiness for all of our students.

Kindergarten 2026 I have already started interviewing for 2026 and the interest so far is very strong. Again, if you have a child coming next year, you need to let the office know immediately. Please do not leave it to the last minute. Both classes were filled this year, and it is looking likely that both will fill next year too. I sincerely would not like to see one of our siblings miss out!

Scripture Reflection Colossians 3:13 “Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved heartfelt compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience; bearing with one another and forgiving one another. If one has a grievance against another, as the Lord has forgiven you, so must you also do.”

St Joseph’s Feast Day Whole School Mass All parents and grandparents are invited to our next Mass to celebrate the important feast of St Joseph, the earthly father of Jesus. St Joseph is very important to us because Mary MacKillop had a special devotion to him. In fact, she named her religious order after him and they were known as the Josephites or “Brown Joeys” because they wore brown habits. This is why our special needs centre is known as the St Joseph Centre. The Mass will be held in our Church at 8.45am on Thursday 20 March.

Reconciliation Please keep our Year 3 students in your prayers as they prepare to receive the Sacrament of Penance for the first time on Saturday morning 22 March. I would like to thank the Year 3 teachers, Sonja Robertson and Conor Hunter, as well as the Assistant Principals and all other staff members who have assisted with the programme. This promises to be a very special time for them and their families.

Parent/Teacher Interviews These will be conducted over the coming weeks, and I urge all parents to make a time to meet with your children’s teachers to find out how they are going so far this year. These interviews are very important as the teachers can give you all the details you need, as well as providing you with ways in which you too can support your children. From experience, I have always found that the parents who engage with the teachers in a positive and constructive manner, get the best outcomes for their children. We are very blessed to have such a dedicated and talented team of teachers here and I know they will do their best to support your children.

Yours sincerely

Laurie Bechelli
